Fellows Benefits and Responsibilities, 2007-2008
Graduate Fellows will receive $30,000 plus up to $10,500 for tuition costs for a 12 month period (June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008). All Fellows must meet these obligations.

- Fellows will complete a five-day training seminar in August 2007 to prepare them to serve as resources/collaborators. AGSSS
- Fellows are expected to be geospatially skilled but not necessarily aware of their spatial thinking or able to teach spatial thinking to others. The training seminar will hone Fellow's spatial analysis skills and abilities to communicate those skills and knowledge effectively to others. The seminar will focus on five topics:
- Spatial thinking, particularly new understandings of spatial thinking, individual differences and spatial thinking, and specific strategies to promote effective spatial thinking;
- The learning/teaching process in general;
- National Standards-based curriculum and state curriculum, particularly the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the mandated state curriculum, and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), the high stakes state assessments given to science and social studies students;
- School culture and how to work effectively with Teachers, Students, and other school personnel; and
- The curriculum projects that will form the core of the collaboration with Teachers.
- Fellows will work with Teachers in College Station ISD and other schools as assigned for approximately 15 hours per week.
- Fellows will participate in biweekly seminars during the school year, seven per semester. The biweekly seminar for Fellows will offer follow-up training as identified by Fellows and Teachers, evaluations, and observation as well as lectures/training on spatial thinking, technology applications, instructional strategies, and guest speakers.
- Fellows, PI's, Teachers, and School District representatives will meet at least twice per semester (October and December; February and May) or as needed to coordinate and evaluate progress and for shared learning experiences.
- Fellows will participate in the Teacher 10 day summer training in June 2007 as co-learners on the topics of teacher-research and the pedagogy of spatial thinking, and mentors in geospatial technologies and spatial thinking and analysis.
- Fellows will document their experiences for later evaluation, reflection, research, and reporting at seminars and professional meetings. Fellows will also assist in the development of research publications and will be required to complete a summary report for submission to NSF.
