Outreach

  AGSSS Fellows are busy in classrooms in College Station and elsewhere. They also reach out to educate others about spatial thinking and geospatial technologies. This page details some of the outreach activities carried out by Fellows and PIs from 2005 onward.

GK-12 Southwest Regional Meeting, College Station, Texas, October 2005. AGSSS Fellows organized and presented a poster outlining AGSSS activities. They were able to network with other GK-12 programs with similar interests in geospatial technologies.

Southwest Association of American Geographers (SWAAG) Annual Meeting, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR., November, 2005. AGSSS Fellows organized and presented a poster focused on spatial thinking and the GK-12 Program.

Association of American Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting, Chicago, Illinois, March, 2006. Fellow Gabe Burns contributed as a member to a panel with Fellows from Oklahoma State University's GK-12 program on strategies to enhance graduate education through outreach, community engagement, and reflection.

GK-12 PI and Fellows Meeting, Washington DC, March 24-26, 2006. The national network of GK-12 programs met at the Ronald Reagan Center to share ideas, experiences, and to learn more about NSF's aspirations for GK-12 and graduate education.

Air Fair. AGSSS Fellows and PIs worked with students from La Grange, Texas and Hearne, Texas in the Air Fair Program led by Dr. Brian Heckman in April and May 2006. AGSSS Fellows helped students learn about direction and wayfinding by using compasses.

Summer Training Institute. In June 2006, Fellows, teachers,and PIs developed new skills in mapping, thinking spatially, and in using geospatial technologies.
